This morning, Geraldene, Verna, Judy and I went to Snow Canyon State Park. This was my first time there. But not for the other three. They shared with me the Petrified Dunes. This is a one mile moderate trail with some steep slopes, and uneven surfaces. This trail crosses massive Navajo sandstone outcrops and sand dunes frozen in time. Verna was headed towards the water that collected from the recent rain. We took time to pose around the water knowing that it won't be here for long. I'm sitting in front of petrified sand that looks like chocolate frosting that was just mixed with egg beaters. We marvel at all the colors and textures and wildlife that we see. Geraldene points to the large rock formation that is called "Herd of Elephant".
The last photo is me sitting in the sand looking back towards Pine Vally Mountain covered in snow. The Sand Dunes Trail leads to a large expanse of red sand serving as a giant sandbox and play area for children of all ages. Even though the weather was in the low 40's and nice for walking, I'm sure it is very much a desert in July. That's when you want the water! We had a great time.
